Buying for a man who says he wants nothing is one of the great December puzzles. The answer is usually something he already uses every day, made his own with a few engraved words. A keyring he carries everywhere, a pen on his desk, cufflinks for the wedding season: small things, but ones he will reach for long after the wrapping paper has gone.
This guide groups our most-chosen pieces by the kind of man you are buying for, with wording ideas and practical notes on what fits where. You can see your exact engraving on the product page before you order, so there are no surprises on Christmas morning.
For the man who carries keys everywhere
A keyring is the most-used gift you can give. Our four-sided bar keychain takes a short line on each side, which makes it perfect for a sequence: names of the children, a date, a place and a sign-off such as "Drive safe, love you". If he is a music fan, the Spotify keychain carries a scannable code for a song that means something to you both, with your own message on the back.
For the driver in your life, the 4D number plate keyring reproduces a registration or name in raised characters, and the motorcycle helmet keychain is a small, well-made nod to his bike. Browse every style in personalised keyrings.
For the man in a suit
Cufflinks are a classic for good reason. Our personalised cufflinks gift set lets you engrave each cufflink separately, add a matching tie clip and choose an engraved wooden box. Initials on one side and a date on the other is a timeless layout; a short phrase such as "Always" works beautifully on a square face like our square cufflinks.
A personalised tie clip is a subtle alternative for someone who rarely wears double cuffs. Engrave the front with initials and keep a private message for the back, where only he will see it.
For the man at a desk
A well-engraved pen is a gift that gets used every working day. The engraved Parker Jotter is a dependable ballpoint with a stainless steel body, and you can add a gift bag or a Parker gift box. Keep the engraving short for the cleanest result: a full name, initials, or a two-word message such as "Proud of you".
For more colours, see engraved Parker pens. Pens are also an easy choice for a new job, a graduation or a retirement later in the year.
For the man who keeps things in his wallet
The personalised wallet card is a slim steel card that slips into any wallet behind his bank cards. It has room for a longer message, which makes it one of the most personal gifts in this guide: a few lines from the children, a favourite quote, or the date you met. If he needs a new wallet anyway, our leather pop-up wallet can be engraved with initials.
For the man who wears a bracelet
A braided leather bracelet with an engraved clasp is understated and easy to wear. The men's bar bracelet gives you up to four sides to engrave, ideal for coordinates of a place that matters, the children's names or a date. For something deeply personal, the handwriting bracelet for men is engraved with real handwriting from a photo you upload.
For Dad, specifically
Dads tend to keep things for decades, which makes engraved gifts a safe bet. Popular choices include the bar keychain with each child's name on a side, cufflinks with "Dad" and the year, and the handwriting tie bar engraved with a child's own writing. See the full edit in gifts for Dad.
Wording ideas that work
- Short and classic: initials, or initials with a year (for example "J.M. 2026").
- Family: the children's names, one per side on a bar keychain.
- Private messages: keep a short line for the back of a tie clip or cufflink.
- Places: coordinates of a first home, a wedding venue or a favourite walk.
- Dates: written as you would say them, for example 12.06.2025, or in Roman numerals.

Stocking fillers for him
Smaller engraved gifts make good stocking fillers: a slim engraved tie clip, a guitar pick box for the guitarist, or a personalised whistle for the man who coaches the Sunday team. See all stocking fillers and gifts under £15.
